Dear Colleagues,
In Frankfurt we agreed to exchange short columns of the timely
activities of each double reed society to be published in our
publications. I decided to start with a presentation of our Society.
The Double Reed Society of Finland (Suomen Oboe-Ja Fagottiseura
r.y.) was established in October 1985, making it the oldest national
association for the double reed instruments in Europe. It is a
registered association dedicated to furthering oboe and bassoon
playing in Finland and to making these instruments and their music
better known among the general public.
The F.D.R.S. has about 180 members: professional musicians, music
students, amateurs, other friends of the oboe and bassoon as well
as a few corporate members. The president of our Society is Stig
Forsman (address Tanhuankatu 48 H 35, SF-33560 Tampere, Finland)
and I am the secretary as well as the membership secretary and
editor of our bulletin.
Our Society arranges meetings and get-togethers for our members,
including, for example, public concerts, lectures and training
sessions with Finnish and international teachers.
The F.D.R.S. also publishes a quarterly bulletin mostly for its
members. It contains current information, such as upcoming concerts,
courses and other happenings, interviews and articles concerning
for example the historical development of the double reed instruments,
I.D.R.S. conferences and other international events where our
members have appeared or otherwise participated. The bulletin
also includes advertisements for instruments, accessories and
sheet music bought and sold by the members of our Society and
the music industry.
The Society has a sheet music collection of about 350 pieces,
which can be borrowed by the members.
Yearly subscriptions for 1992 are FIM 100 for regular members,
FIM 50 for music students, and FIM 350 for corporate members who
are given a 50% discount on advertising fees.
You too can join the F.D.R.S. by contacting me through the address:

Espoo, Finland.
With best regards,
Jaana Norio
