We have received word of the Isle of Wight International Oboe
Competition, to be held on September 1 1 and 12, 1993 on the Isle
of Wight in England. Oboists who have not reached their 30th birthday
by September 12, 1993 are eligible. No previous winner of an international
competition is eligible. For the preliminary stage, entrants must
send cassette and a fee of F-20 to include:
a) Any one of the twelve Telemann Fantasias for Unaccompanied
Flute
(Barenreiter edition)
b) Sarabande and Allegro - Grovlez
c) Free choice - One piece of not more than ten minutes.

27, 1993 to qualify for entry.
Seven semi-finalists will be selected on the basis of this material.
They will appear before a panel of judges, including Maurice Bourgue
of France, Burkhard Glaetzner of Germany, Celia Nicklin of England,
Alf Nilsson of Sweden , and Han de Vries of Holland. Lady Evelyn
Barbirolli is chairman of the jury. The final stage will include
a performance of the Mozart Oboe Concerto and a new work commissioned
for the competition from British composer, Joseph Horovitz. Prizes
include a recital in the Wigmore Hall, London and a cash prize
of L1,000. Second prize is F-750 in cash; third prize is L500.
