Report of the Executive Secretary/Treasurer

Endorsements ...

Your issues are mailed with the following endorsements:

Forwarding and Return Postage Guaranteed

Address Correction Requested

With these two endorsements the postal service reacts as follows:

IF you have a "forward order" on file, and IF you have marked that you want magazines forwarded, and IF your forward order is still in effect, your issue will be forwarded to you and your change of address will be sent to me. In all other circumstances, the issue will be returned to me, and if possible, your change of address will be sent with it.

What this boils down to is IF you receive a forwarded issue, I will have received your change of address. Only if you receive two issues forwarded should you worry about sending me an address change. Post Office change of address cards must have a stamp affixed or I will not get them.

Missing Issues ...

If you want me to send you an issue you have missed, you must be specific about what you have missed. During any year we publish Vol. "N" numbers 1, 2, and 3 of the Double Reed; and the annual Journal. As an example, in 1991, we published the Double Reed, Vol. 14, No. 1; Annual Journal #19 of 1991, Vol. 14, No. 2, and Vol. 14, No. 3. A card from you saying that you missed the last "Journal" or "Issue" doesn't make a lot of sense. So, if you think you have missed something, please be careful about it so I can simply send you the missing issue without having to write to ask just what you have missed.

The other type of missing issue has nothing to do with address changes. It happens when I

receive a return because the label has been lost. So, IF you have not moved and you do not receive a particular issue, write me. For instance, right now I have a Vol. 15, No. 2 issue which should have gone to some member who does not live in the USA and is either a contributing member or has paid for Air Mail postage. The envelope was damaged and the label is gone. It had Air Mail Postage affixed, but I have no way of knowing where it was originally sent.

Red-Letter Day ...

A most unusual happening! I felt almost like a lost sheep. There was a real void in my day. I even checked with the proper authorities. BUT, it was true! On November 17, 1992, 1 DID NOT receive a single I.D.R.S. item in the mail!

Correspondence ...

I answer every question sent to me even IF I don't know the answer! I might just tell you to contact someone else, but I do answer. I also answer quite informally most of the time. I frequently just turn over your letter and write on the back. Please excuse this informality, but this position has evolved to the point where a dozen dues payments quite frequently calls for 6 to 8 replies. I simply try to answer as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Dues ...

Dues notices will soon be mailed. Don't forget that ALL memberships are for the calendar year. Dues are due in January of any given year. By the time you receive this issue, your dues are DUE. How about doing your part towards the growth of the Society by giving a membership to a fellow player, a student, or an enthusiast.
