BASSOON QUESTIONNAIRE - INTERNATIONAL

Subsequent to the questionnaire response about bassoon playing from Rino Vernizzi of Turin, Italy (T.T.W.B., Vol. Vll, No. 3, 1977). I have received another response from an American-trained bassoonist now playing in Canada:

Thank you for your response, Vincent. I hope to hear from many other bassoonists from different parts of North America, from Europe, from the Far East, etc., so we can begin to make interesting comparisons and evaluations. I plan, for example to compile this type of information from several West German bassoonists during my orchestra's April, 1978 tour of Germany. As the pitch level of many German orchestras is much higher than the pitch in North American orchestras, I expect to find a required fundamental change in pitch of reeds there (possible crook and instrument modifications also). I will report on this in the newsletter's second issue later this year.
