Pergolesi's Concertino in B (for strings, arranged by Andrew Knights), Luciano Berio's Sequenza Vll (Melinda Maxwell, solo oboe), Canon in D by Pachelbel (Notes on the program mentioned of this work, "The canon begins with the oboes, is passed through the d'amores and cor anglais with increased part-writing and sensuality.") 3 Hymns to Agape by the ensemble's director, Dominic Muldowney (b. 1952). "There are three movements (Hymns) connected by 2 "false transitions" in the piano; in each, certain parameters are highly stylized: In I (cor anglais) all parameters (including pedalling); in II (oboe d'amore) melody; in III (oboe) rhythm. Throughout the piece the oboist circular breathes." Two concluding works were 9 for 9 Bicinium of Orlando Lassus (arr. Muldowney), and Concerto for 3 Oboes of Telemann (arr. Andrew Knights) "This concerto was originally scored for three oboes, three violins and continuo. In this arrangement. . . the oboes take the violin material and the cor anglais play the original oboe lines."
(Editor's former pupil, Jo Ann Simpson reports that this ensemble is terrific and is already booked for the 1980 IDRS Edinburgh Conference!)

Stuart Raleigh was the pianist. (N. B. Contrabassoonists!!!) Bruce also mentions the availability of a Quintett, op. 63 for Contrabassoon and Strings by Swiss composer Willy Hess. Bruce writes, "None of the parts are really very difficult . . . but it seems like a very pleasant piece. If I am correct, this is the only piece of chamber music for contra and small string ensemble." Also mentioned: Erwin Schulhoff's Bass Nightingale for solo contrabassoon will soon be released by June Emerson Publications, England, in an edition by William Waterhouse.
