THE MENSABURG WOODWIND QUINTET
From "The Isolated M"
(Editor's note. Our loyal contra-bassoonist friend from Florida, Cornelia Biggers, sends this witty puzzle with permission from Harper Fowley, Editor of the above-named publication. It is a newsletter for members of the high-I.Q. society MENSA of which Cornelia is a valued member. The solution to the puzzle will appear in our next issue of The Double Reed.)
The members of this amateur chamber music group were about to play their first concert.
- The clarinetist, George, and the teacher were the first 3 to arrive; Pinky and the youngest member arrived a few minutes later.
- Pinky's second instrument was, naturally, the piccolo.
- The teacher had never learned to play a reed instrument.
- Lou is younger than the lawyer or Pat, but older than the 29-year-old or the cop.
- Of the two double reed instruments, George played the higher pitched one.
- After the concert Pat, the flautist, the senior member, and Sal split a large garlic pizza four ways. The doctor could not join them, he was due at the hospital. OK, let's see if you can identify the members of the quintet.
