WILLIAM ALLGOOD

Principal, Kalamazoo (Michigan) Symphony, faculty Western Michigan University. New York Times review of his Carnegie Hall debut recital (Allen Hughes) . . . "The evening might be summed up as one of intelligent and efficient music-making." Bertoli Sonata Prima, David Ward-Steinman's "Child's Play", Sonata by Alvin Etler, Tansman's Sonatine and the Hindemith Concerto for Trumpet, Bassoon and Strings (piano version).

CINDY CAMERON

4/1981. Performed Henri Tomasi 's demanding Concerto for Bassoon with the University of Wisconsin (Madison, Wisconsin) Orchestra. Cindy has been a pupil of Richard Lottridge.

DAVID CARROLL

Associate Professor, University of Toronto (Canada), 1979 - while substituting for Manuel Zegler while the latter was on sick leave from his solo bassoon position with the New York Philharmonic, performed two weeks of concerts and recordings with the orchestra. David is performing in the latest release of Berlioz' "Symphonie Fantastique" with Zubin Mehta and the New York Philharmonic.

FRANCOIS CARRY

Basson solo de l'Orchestre Pasdeloup, France. Francois, one of the superb group who performed at Edinburgh last summer under the direction of Maurice Allard, is a member of the prominent woodwind quintet quintette à vent TAFFANEL. In addition to many concerts in Europe each season the quintet recently recorded works of Joseph Jongen for quintet.

ARTHUR GROSSMAN

Bassoonist, Soni Ventorum Quintet, Seattle, Washington. Arthur writes us that he performed Concerto by Jean Francaix with Kathryn Collier at the piano. In the third movement, Arthur played the BUFFET bassoon, so that the audience might hear the instrument for which the piece was originally written.

LEONARD HINDELL

Bassoonist with the New York Philharmonic gave a program at Carnegie Hall. New York Times review of this Spring 1980 concert (Raymond Ericson) . . . "Aside from corralling so many fine artists, Mr. Hindell had put together a constantly absorbing program." For example, the program was closed with a Concerto for oboe, trumpet, bassoon, two violins, and continuo by Francesco Biscogli, a barely-known 18th Century composer.

RONALD KLIMKO

Bassoon Faculty, University of Idaho/ School of Music, performed in two recitals last fall at the University. The first, a faculty recital, included the Sonata in e minor by Telemann, Henri Dutilleux's Sarabande et Cortege pour basson et piano, Vivaldi's Concerto in g minor, and Adagio Sostenuto and Polonaise for bassoon and string trio by Carl Jacobs. The second recital was also given at the University Recital Hall with the Northwest Wind Quintet of which he is a member. Ron played Pierre Gabaye's Quintette on his Buffet bassoon.

RICHARD LOTTRIDGE

Bassoon Faculty, University of Wisconsin/School of Music, performed in 'Something New', an all jazz faculty recital. January, 1981. Richard's own compositions figured prominently on the program. There were two pieces for bassoon, piano, bass drums and vibes called Grandfather's Waltz and 7th Heaven -- (Wonder whether he's reached it). Low-Lower-Lowest was also written by Richard for contrabassoon, bass and piano. John Coltrane and Charlie Parker's Giant Steps and Donna Lee respectively were both played as bassoon solos.

ATSUKO SATO

Scholarship student in graduate studies at the Juilliard School and winner of the Ima Hogg National Young Artists Competition. Chamber Music at Christ-St. Stephens Church, March 1981. Divertissemento, Op. 6 by Albert Roussel, Aubade by Dinu Lipatti, Antonio Baur's Remembrances from Verdi's "Italian Vespers," a world premiere of Bruce Adolphe's One for Two (1980) and the Ludwig Thuille Sextet, Op. 6.

SOL SCHOENBACH

Director, Settlement Music School, Philadelphia. Chamber Music concert - 1980. Sol Schoenbach and Orlando Cole (Cello) performed Mozart's Sonata in B flat Major. In the Spring of 1980, a "Double Reed Dialogue" with John De Lancie (oboe) - A Reminiscence about the Philadelphia Orchestra. Works included were, Vivaldi Concerto in G Major, Cor de Groot -Serenade for Oboe and Bassoon, Passepied by P. Lacome and F. Poulenc's Trio for Piano, oboe and bassoon.

R. JAMES WHIPPLE

Lecturer, Carlow College in a Faculty Recital: "Off-beat Music for the Bassoon". Georges Bizet - Little Duet in C Minor for Bassoon and cello (1874), Hindemith Stücke (Four Pieces) für Fagott und Violoncello (1941), Edward Elgar's Romance for Bassoon (1910), Melvin Soloman - Etudes to Spring, for solo bassoon (1968), Sonata for Bassoon and Piano (1947) by Romeo Cascarino, and two compositions by the artist himself - Der Ganze Kram (1973, revised in 1980) for 3 bassoons, the 3rd doubling contrabassoon; and Frolic for Four 'Fags' (1972). (Assisting bassoonists were: Don Hollis, Jeff Pompe and David Bruner). These works in manuscript are available from the composer (5557 Hobart St., Apt. 11, Pittsburgh, PA 15217, U.S.A.)

GEORGE ZUKERMAN

World traveling Canadian bassoonist. B. C. Overture Concerts Society 80/81 Season. Johann Friedrich Fasch - Sonata in C Major, Louis Spohr's Adagio for bassoon and piano, Andante and Hungarian Rondo by Carl Maria von Weber, the Mozart Andante from Concerto, Three Pieces for a Modern Day China (1978) by Theo Goldberg and V. Dvarionas - Variations (1959). (The Goldberg work was written for Mr. Zukerman and will be performed on George's forthcoming tour of China.)
