Word has regretfully been received that on Monday, March 1st, 1982, Paul Tucci, principal bassoonist of the Houston Symphony from 1958 to 1981, died after a lengthy respiratory illness. Tucci, 50, was appointed to the Houston Symphony by Leopold Stokowski and performed under four succeeding conductors--Sir John Barbirolli, Andre Previn, Lawrence Foster and Sergiu Comissiona. He was also a featured soloist with the symphony and the Houston Chamber Orchestra on several occasions. From 1958 until his death, he was a member of the Woodwinds of Houston, a quintet organized by principal woodwind players of the Houston Symphony.
