On the cover: This portrait of Robert Sprenkle, professor emeritus of oboe at the Eastman School of Music, was unveiled in a ceremony at the school on March 12, 1984. Painted by Stanley Gordon, the portrait hangs in the school's second floor corridor. Mr. Sprenkle recently retired from the position he held on the faculty since 1936.
