At the beginning of my second year as President of the International Double Reed Society, I have great pride and excitement in the continuing expansion of our organization. In 1986 our membership has increased by twenty-five percent to a total of more than two thousand. A group-rate insurance policy for members' instruments and other equipment is being investigated. Committees on life membership and on honorary membership are contemplating new ideas concerning enrollment. Our future Conferences are being scheduled in such exciting locations: '87 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; '88 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; '89 in Manchester, England.

It is my hope that this growth will tempt you to attend next year's Conference as it has tempted me since I attended my first. If you missed seeing old friends and finding new ones at Winston-Salem, this alone should make you begin planning now for next year's Conference. No aspect of the International Double Reed Society is ever the same without you.

Zum beginn meines zweiten Jahres als Prasident der International Double Reed Society blicke ich mit Stolz und Erwartung auf die bestandige Erweiterung unserer Gesellschaft. Im Jahre 1986 lst die Anzahl unserer Mitglieder um 25 To zu einer Gesamtzahl von uber zwei tausend angestiegen. Gegenwiirtig wird die Moglichkeit einer Gruppenversicherung fur Instrumente und anderes Zubehor unserer Mitglieder untersucht. Ausschusse far Mitgliedschaft auf Lebenszeit und fur Ehrenmitglieder erwagen neue Wege zur Forderung unserer Vereinigung. Unsere Kunftigen Konferenzen sind in grossartigen Stadten geplant: '87 in Las Vegas, im Bundesstaat Nevada, USA; '88 in Victoria, Britisch Kolumbia, Kanada; '89 in Manchester, England.

Ich hoffe, class dieser Wachstum einen Anreiz fur Sie bietet an der Konferenz im nachsten Jahr Teilzunehmen und dass Sie die gleiche Begeisterung empfinden, die ich seit meiner ersten Konferenz Spure. Falls Sie es versaumten in Winston-Salem alte Freunde wiederzusehen und neue zu gewinnen, dies allein sollte Grund fur Sie sein schon jetzt Plane fur die Konferenz im nachsten Jahr zu schmieden. Kein Gesichtspunkt der I.D.R.S. ist nun mal derselbe ohne Ihr Mitwirken.
