On the cover: Harold Gomberg,
long-time first oboist of the New York Philharmonic, was also
an accomplished painter. His works often show the sunny colors
of his beloved Italy, and the painting on the cover is no exception.
Easily discerned are figures of an oboist and a harpist. The work
was presented to Dan Stolper by Margaret Brill Gomberg for his
personal collection, and as a memento to be shared with the I.D.R.S.
membership. We thank her for her thoughtfulness.
Photographic reproduction by Brenda Holly (principal bassoonist,
the Lansing Symphony Orchestra).
