Plans for the convention are beginning to take form, and though it is still several months off, we would like to remind our fellow members to make plans to attend. Dates are August 20-21 at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Many major symphony players have been contacted about presenting programs, and we are currently trying to schedule as many as can attend. In addition we have some excellent programs from our industry and individual members.
Among the programs confirmed at this time are: Alan Fox - "Souping for Sound" and a survey of bassoon literature by Dr. Donald Munsell. Dr. Arthur Benade, famed authority on acoustics of woodwinds will also be featured. We are planning at least a one-hour period a day for members to socialize and perhaps form ensembles, so bring your instruments! Carolyn Hadfield is contacting bassoonists and Noah Knapper is working with our industry members concerning displays and presentations of new products.
The oboe and bassoon newsletters will bring you last-minute information on the convention. Meanwhile we are eager to solicit ideas or suggestions from our members. If it is possible, they will be included this year; if not, they will be considered for future meetings. Please send program correspondence to the following address:
