Report from the Executive Secretary/Treasurer

Lowry Riggins

A few years ago we began using membership cards at the request of some members who desired tangible evidence that they were a member of the Society. This was at a time when we were quite late in publishing, and it seemed a reasonable idea at the time.

At our meeting in Boulder I asked quite a few members if they had their membership cards with them. With few exceptions the answer was NO! From this and a few letters I have received I am beginning to wonder at the necessity of having membership cards. If they are NOT really needed then it seems foolish to spend the money on them. Yet, if they are wanted by the membership then we should certainly have them. Please take time to let me know your feeling about this either at our meeting in August or by dropping a line.

I sometimes think bankers worldwide are still basically money changers, but International monetary exchange continues to be somewhat of a problem. Members from outside the USA can alleviate this by following the suggestions in this publication.

Members outside the USA should use either an International Postal Money, Order drawn in U.S. dollars or an In ternational Cashiers Check drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars.

If you
do not follow the above, my local bank charges $5.00 just to send your check off to be cashed! If you wish to use the Swiss account be sure you use a bank transfer rather than a check.

I have an unidentified payment to our Swiss account which originated in Westminster Bank, London on 18/04/86. Please make claim.

It is really impossible for me to answer all the short notes or acknowledge the kindness expressed in many of your letters, so let me just say publicly, "Thank you," to all the members of the Society.
