INFORMATION ON THE 1975 ANNUAL MEETING OF IDRS

The fourth annual meeting of the International Double Reed Society will take place on August 10 and 11, 1975, at the Department of Music, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois (a near suburb of Chicago). There will be ample comfortable accommodations at the Holiday Inn, 1501 Sherman Avenue, Evanston, Illinois 60201, just three blocks from the music department. IDRS members and anyone else interested in attending the meeting may contact the Holiday Inn by local telecommunications or by use of the registration cards mailed with this Journal. Room rates are $21 - $26.

In addition to our usual business meetings, lecture-demonstrations performances, and instrument and music exhibits, we are fortunate this year in having the opportunity to hear the Chicago Symphony at its Ravinia Park summer home, on Sunday evening, August 10, 1975. (For anyone arriving on Saturday, there is a special all-Berlioz performance by the Chicago Symphony at Ravinia that evening August 9th)

From Chicago's O'Hare International Airport there is direct transportation by Airporter limousine to Evanston ($3).

There are three buildings housing the Northwestern University music department. IDRS registration will take place in the largest of the three, the administration building (on the main floor, one flight upstairs from any entrance). There are restaurant facilities both on campus and very close by.

Our hosts for the IDRS Meeting are Mr. James Moore and Wilbur Simpson of Northwestern. Mr. Simpson is a bassoonist with the Chicago Symphony.

Among our guest lecturers this year will be members of the oboe and bassoon sections of the Chicago Symphony; Christopher Weait, IDRS 1975 Vice-President; Dr. Chester White, Jr., discussing nerve problems in musicians' fingers; William Brannen of Chicago explaining more about instrumental care and repair. The eminent French artist Maurice Allard sends his sincere regrets that he will not be able to speak with us about the French system bassoon. A medical problem requires him to remain at home for the entire summer. However, among performances this August we will hear Gerald Corey, IDRS past President from Ottawa, Ontario, present two solo works with a brief discussion one each on the Heckel and Buffet bassoons. We also are promised a performance of the New York Bassoon Quartet and possibly a few additional compositions for double reed mixed ensembles.

The Editors of IDRS join with your officers in inviting you to attend this Fourth Annual Meeting of the Society.
