I have heard some concern from members who live in
countries other than the U.S.A. about paying of dues. NO ONE is ever
dropped from the computer because of non-payment of dues until I have
mailed an AIR MAIL reminder to them and allowed time for their
response. For 1994, the first notice was mailed within the last issue
of 1993. Some members probably received issues without this insert. The
final notice was mailed first class or VIA AIR to all members
immediately after the first issue of 1994 was mailed.
PLEASE READ PAGE 77 OF VOL. 17 No. 1 AGAIN. DON'T FORGET TO
CHECK YOUR LABEL! I am using an alphabetical field for sorting, but
this does not affect the last name field. There are many times when I
am entirely unsure of how to enter a members' name. (Naturally, ALL
members are exceptionally clear about this when filling out application
forms) Some females of the fairer sex prefer to be alphabetized via
their maiden name which is also their professional name. Some prefer to
use their married name. Some forget to tell me which to use. In some
cases I am totally unfamiliar with the customs of your country.
Hyphenated names are also a problem. Many of you are in business. I am never sure whether
you wish to be alphabetized as "Axeme Reed Company" or "Zapp, Joe." If
you are unsure of any of this, just drop me a card telling me how you
wish to be alphabetized and what your label should look like. not write articles, do not host a conference, or are
not involved in our daily activities through an "inferiority complex."
Seeing the quality of our issues IS a bit intimidating, but believe me
when I say that our editors welcome all articles submitted. I WILL NOT
say they will use them because that's not within my domain, but they do
welcome them! Hosting a conference is a daunting task, but please
don't think you must have the very best facilities to get involved.
Very few universities have the optimal set-up for a conference. A
successful conference depends more on hard work by the host than any
facilities. Occasionally, someone notes that the majority of the
work of the Society gets done by a minimum number of people. If you
take a close look at MOST Societies, you will find this same trait. The
Executive Committee has no way of knowing about your interest unless
you make it known to them.
Be aware that a change of address takes time to take effect. It is common for someone to send me a change of address the day after I
have mailed labels for an issue. Some of you then mail me another when
your issue is forwarded. Panic thou not! IF the U.S. Postal Service has
forwarded your mail to you they should have also sent your change of
address to me. The "update" on the directory was those who didn't
make it into Vol 16 No. 2. There will be future directories, but no
more updates on this first one.

Financial Report for 1993
Most of you are aware that your I.D.R.S. office is being
operated with as many "business" safeguards as possible. The Society
has a C.P.A. who balances the check book each month. He then does an
audit at the end of each year and files our tax return. A full copy of
his report is available upon request. The following figures are taken
from his audit. The Society is in good shape in every
way.
