Sharrow Abroad, and Visiting Bassoon Lecturers - Beginning this fall, Leonard Sharrow will be taking a sabbatical leave from his post at Indiana University to travel, do research work and perform in Europe. Mr. Sharrow has scheduled several radio performances of the Hummel Grand Concerto including, September 14, 1971, in Brussels (Chamber Orch. of the Belgian Radio) and Sept. 29 and 30 in Basle (with the Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft of Basle), plus solo and chamber recitals. His research abroad will be in the field of bassoon reed-making, past and present.
During the period of Sharrow's leave, Indiana University has invited two outstanding bassoonists: Milan Turkovic of Vienna (Fall term) and William Waterhouse of London (Spring and Summer). This will surely be an interesting year for bassoonists (and others) at I.U. The Editor will communicate with both artists and have a report in time on this valuable experiment in international bassoon study.
