MESSAGE TO THE MEMBERSHIP FROM THE OUT-GOING PRESIDENT

Greetings and especially good wishes to all members of the I.D.R.S. Our new organization is off to a good beginning and this past year has seen substantial growth in our membership. Although I had the Presidency thrust upon me unexpectedly with the resignation of Dr. Edgar Kirk last spring, I have enjoyed being in the midst of things as the Society has begun to take shape and develop. There is a fine future for the Society, and as the years go by the membership will be recipients of the increasing benefits which I.D.R.S. hopes to provide for double reed players and to other interested members. Increased communications among double reed enthusiasts on a world-wide basis is already a tangible reality with the publication of the newsletters "To The World's Bassoonists" and "To The World's Oboists" and our annual Journal. A permanent library is being formed, and steps taken to encourage new music for oboes and bassoons. Our incoming President, Gerald Corey, will now assume office, and I encourage all members to give their support to his leadership in the further development of our Society.
