RECORDINGS
- Jack Phelan - IDRS member and author of this article on J. Walter
Guetter: "A Woodwind Sampler" and "The Guetter Canon."
- Copies of a most interesting tape recording of examples of the playing of
many well-known woodwind artists, complete with meaningful commentary. The "Woodwind
Sampler" includes flutists Baker, Kincaid, Laurent, and Rampal; oboists
Roseman, Tabuteau, A. Goltzer, H. Gomberg, and R. Bloom; clarinetists Bellison,
Cioffi, Cahuzak, and Marcellus; and bassoonists Guetter, Oubradous, Schoenbach,
Garfield, and M. Allard. The "Guetter Canon" includes many of the
passages mentioned in Dr. Phelan's article. To me the most hauntingly beautiful
is that of Stokowski's arrangement of Bach's "Es is volbracht" for
solo English horn, bassoon, and strings (Robert Bloom on English horn).

reel-to-reel copies available. Price $6 to $8 - write for exact figure.
- Richard Lottridge - Bassoon Recital. (Golden Crest Records, Inc.
220 Broadway, Huntington Station, NY. No. RE 7055).
- With pianist Carroll Chilton, Mr. Lottridge records for the first
time (to my knowledge): Alec Wilder's Sonata No. 2 and Sonatina
by Mario Castelnuevo-Tedesco (1895-1968) both are effective recital works and
the performance is fine also. Three other works by Arne, Kabalevsky, and
Pachulsky, are arrangements.
