In the city of Pècs, Hungary, there is a stone monument near the ancient cathedral, erected at the turn of the century, in the memory of a famous local bassoon player, Imre (Emery) Weidinger. As a matter of fact, this unfortunate artist was blind; you will observe this looking at one of the enclosed 3 pictures. I do not know if there is another place in the world where there is a monument of a bassoonist. The epitaph is the following:
WEIDINGER IMRE (Emery Weidinger)
Fagott müvész (Bassoon artist)
Szul. (born) in Pècs 1792
Meghalt (died) in Pècs 1859
