IDRS Members and T.T.W.B. subscribers. The editor apologizes sincerely for the delay in printing and mailing of this issue and Volume IV, No. 3 (which complete the fourth volume of the newsletter series). Every possible effort is being made to keep the three issues of a given volume within the calendar year. But the time required for preparation of each newsletter, the IDRS Journals and the typical load of performing, touring and teaching many of us share makes for uncomfortable delays on occasion. I hope that all readers will maintain an understanding point of view and will continue to maintain their membership and subscription status, instructions for which are given on page one. We all value your individual support and the continued flow of fine news, thought-provoking articles, and many good ideas for improving our publications.

Dial Indicators -- Mr. William Arbiter who makes the excellent ARB dial indicator set-ups for reed measurement, has asked me to announce that because of several increases in the price of his components he must ask a bit more for the units. He now offers the following units (in either 1/1000th inch or 1/100th millimeter divisions): oboe, clarinet bassoon and contrabassoon @ $34.00 each; and a combination unit (single and double reeds) for $41.50. Langwill's List -- collectors of wind instruments, libraries, and many others will be pleased to know that Lyndesay G. Langwill is bringing out a fourth edition of his excellent reference work, An Index of Musical Wind-Instrument Makers (272 pages, 14 illustrations, black and #ffffff, also coloured jacket and frontispiece). A prospectus has already been mailed to the usual libraries, museums, etc. But I am also announcing the work here because Mr. Langwill, author of The Bassoon and Contrabassoon (Ernest Benn. London--W. W. Norton, New York) needs an advance indication of a large enough number of orders before he can proceed with publication. The price is 6.20 pounds, $15.00 U.S., and orders may be sent to: Lyndesay G. Langwill, 7 Dick Place, Edinburgh EH9 2JS, Scotland.
