SHOSTAKOVICH SOCIETY OF AMERICA

by (Bassoonist) Scott Vigder

The composer Dmitri Shostakovich created so many beautiful solos for wind instruments and the bassoon and oboe in particular in all his symphonic works. I would like to establish a society in his memory to further indicate our high regard for this unique musician, a giant among the composers of this century.

Here in brief is a list of the purposes of this society:

  1. To encourage more performances of Shostakovich's work (which is not widely enough known).
  2. To assist in disseminating information about Shostakovich's music and to assist all parties in purchasing or renting the actual music, on a world-wide basis.
  3. To arrange communication with composers who might write compositions in memory of Shostakovich.
  4. To inform orchestral musicians of the great beauty and importance of Shostakovich's work
  5. To encourage communication with conductors and musical scholars world-wide on the many questions of interpretation and other aspects of the composer's works, and life.
  6. To encourage a more complete legacy of the large output of this great composer through an increase in the recording of his works.

At this time, I would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in participating in the formation of the SHOSTAKOVICH SOCIETY OF AMERICA and from those who would like to become members of the society when formed. Send me a note with your address and stating your interest, and I will communicate directly with each applicant. Thank you very much.
