The MOECK bassoon depicted in these photos is of a slightly different model from the instrument used by Philip Levin. It is owned by my colleague, Michael Namer of the Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. This instrument is pitched at A 440.
Mr. Levin's bassoon is pitched at the Baroque level of A 415, and therefore is to be played with instruments also tuned or constructed to this pitch level.
Both instruments have 6 keys and are replicas by Otto Steinkopf (constructed by MOECK in Celle, Germany) of a bassoon by J.C. DENNER (d. 1707).
