- October 23, 1972 - EVELYN BARBIROLLI with Valda Aveling,
Harpsichordist (Purcell Room, London).
- This recital included four works written especially for the two artists
Stephen Dodgson Suite in D; Siciliana in E Minor by Michael Head;
Marjolijn Murdoch Fantasy; and Three Bagatelles by Elizabeth
Maconchy. Also included were sonatas of CPE Bach and Carlo Tessarini. The
entire program has been recorded for EMI-Angel.

one of the most beautiful works in the oboe literature - Ed);

- Keith Potter writing in Music and Musicians (April, 1973) - "a
piece that is well constructed, highly poetic, and obviously sincerely felt.
Sarah Francis' playing was ravishing."

April 16 - GREG STEINKE's recital included two premiere
performances - Construction Set for Oboe and Piano by Jere Hutcheson
and the Trio for Oboe, Cello, and Piano of Thomas Korth. The program
also included Paul Harder's 1966 Sonata, three of the Vaughan Williams
Blake Songs, and Mr. Steinke's Sonata for Oboe, Oboe d'Amore,
and English Horn (in which he was assisted by JOHN SCOTT and HOWARD NIBLOCK).

- Richard Rodney Bennett Wind Quintet - one of the first American
performances of this significant work and the first performance of the Quintet
of Llewelyn Gomer.
- May 14 - PATRICIA GRIGNET with the Theater Chamber Players
(Washington Theater Club, Washington, D.C.)
- Ten Pieces for Wind Quintet by Gyorgy Ligeti. To my knowledge,
this was the first U.S. performance of this work; the oboist must also play
oboe d'amore and English horn. Alan Kriegsman wrote in the
Washington Post "The Ten Pieces, written in 1968, present
a brilliant array of sonorities, ranging from twittering sonic graffiti to
undulating drones. The compelling performances by a superb wind ensemble was
under the direction of Leon Fleisher, TCP's artistic director."
