Greetings, and especially holiday good wishes, to all the members of the IDRS. Our new organization is off to a good beginning, and this past year has seen substantial growth in the membership. Although I had the presidency thrust upon me unexpectedly with the resignation of Dr. Edgar Kirk last spring, I have enjoyed being in the midst of things, as the society has begun to take shape and develop. There is a fine future for the society, and as the years go by the membership will be recipients of increasing benefits which the society hopes to provide to double reed players and to other interested parties. Increased communications among double reed enthusiasts on a world-wide basis is already a reality with the publication of the newsletters and the annual Journal. A permanent library is being formed and steps taken to encourage new music for oboes and bassoons. Our incoming president, Gerald E. Corey, will now assume office, and I encourage all members to give their support to his leadership in the further development of our society.
