From the Editor

With this issue we come to the close of our second year of publication. It's a pleasure to report that IDRS continues to grow, both in size of membership and in enthusiasm for the work of the society. 1974 members should have received three issues of TO THE WORLD'S OBOISTS and the 1974 Journal; if you are missing one or more of these, please contact me and they will be sent to you immediately. A limited number of back issues of the 1973 publications are still available and can be ordered directly from me.

In this issue, I am happy to bring you an article by Michel Piguet, Jerold Sundet's profile of Leon Goossens (one of the truly legendary figures in today's oboe-playing world), and another in our series featuring oboe sections of important orchestras.

As you relax from performances of the Christmas Oratorio, Messiah, the Nutcracker, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and L'Enfance du Christ, take a moment to drop a note with oboe news from your part of the world. Good reeds, good concerts, and warmest wishes for 1975.
