Pierre Feit

Mozart: Concerto, K. 314 and Divertimento, K. 251. PIERRE FEIT with the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra, Heinz Dressel conducting. Philips 838 702 AY.

This young artist was born in 1941 in Lorraine, France and studied with Germany's foremost teacher, J. B. Schlee, in Essen. He became first oboist of the Essen Symphony Orchestra while still a student and held this position until 1972 when he began to cultivate a career as a soloist and chamber music player. Since 1967 he has been teaching at the Folkwang Academy in Essen where he succeeded his former teacher. In addition to this recording, he has also recorded for Deutsche Grammophon.

Zelenka: Sonatas. HEINZ HOLLIGER and MAURICE BOURGUE, oboes; Saschoko Gawriloff, violin; Klaus Thunemann, bassoon; Lucio Buccarella, double bass; and Christiane Jaccottet, harpsichord. DG Archiv Produktion 2708 027. These six sonatas date from 1715 and are some of the most significant music in the oboe literature. Holliger told me in 1971 of his great enthusiasm for the music and his eagerness to do this recording. His colleague is also one of Europe's leading players; Bourgue is first oboe of the Orchestra de Paris. Roger Fiske writing in the Gramaphone remarks: "the playing is staggeringly good, and the recording is superb. These are very remarkable discs of very remarkable music."

Beethoven: Trio, Op. 87. PETER PONGRACZ and LAJOS TOTH, oboes; MIHALY EISENBACHER, English horn. Hugaroton LPX 11565.
