Performances

ELAINE DOUVAS, first oboist of the Atlanta Symphony, performed the Schumann Romances and the Mozart Piano Quintet in a concert called "Garrick Ohlsson and Friends" on December 2, 1974, a bonus concert for Atlanta Symphony subscribers.

HAN DE VRIES, formerly principal oboist of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra and presently a member of the Danzi Quintet, made his New York debut in Carnegie Recital Hall on April 15. Accompanied by Diane Walsh, he performed sonatas of Vivaldi and Saint-Saens, as well as works of Schumann, Berio, Bartok, Andriessen, and Shinohara. Allen Hughes writing in the New York Times called him an "oboist who plays with uncommon plasticity and expressivity . . . Since day-to-day musical life does not provide many recital or concerto opportunities for oboists, it is not likely that numerous opportunities to hear Mr. de Vries again are going to present themselves. Oboe enthusiasts should remember the name."
