Mary Albers

Mary Lynne Albers, oboist and IDRS member, died in an automobile accident near Edmonton, Alberta on June 28 1975. She had been on the faculty of the Morehead (Kentucky) State University since 1969.

Miss Albers received her bachelor of music education degree with oboe emphasis and

her master of music degree in woodwinds from Indiana University. She continued her graduate study at the University of Missouri and at the University of Colorado. She was a student of Jerry Sirucek and also studied with Helmut Winschermann at the Deutsche Musikakademie in Detmold, Germany. She studied bassoon with Leonard Sharrow and flute with Harry Houdeshel.

Miss Albers taught at Kansas State College in Pittsburg, Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She appeared as oboe soloist with the Morehead State University Symphony Band, the Milwaukee Symphony, the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra, and the Georgetown (Kentucky) Orchestra. She served as oboist of the Aspen Music Festival Chamber Orchestra in 1971 and 1972. Miss Albers spent the year of 1973 working with the orchestra program of the Holy Trinity School in Haiti, a mission of the Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Albers of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin who have the sympathy of the IDRS membership. A memorial scholarship fund has been established in her name at Morehead State University by Miss Albers' family and friends.
