Joseph Robinson announces the John Mack Oboe Camp June 6 through June 11, 1976 - at Little Switzerland, North Carolina, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The week will begin with a recital by Mr. Mack and a champagne reception. Work sessions each morning will deal with: fundamentals of playing; classical phrase-building (using the Barret melodic studies); articulation and ornamentation (using Sellner, Barret, and others); the Barret Grand Etudes; and oboe reed making. Participants will perform during these morning sessions whenever practicable. Afternoons will be free, with opportunities for exploring the mountain trails, swimming, golfing, and gem-hunting available in nearby Spruce Pine. Recitals are planned on a first-come first-serve basis for the more ambitious participants every afternoon at 5:00 This should provide additional outlets for those who find the master class format with 50 or more people stultifying. Evenings will be devoted to master class exploration of the major orchestral excerpts, with special emphasis on audition repertory. Pat MacFarland will be in residence to do basic oboe repair and adjustment free of charge and to discuss the repairman's trade. Enrollment is limited by available housing space, so only oboists of considerable proficiency who are at least 18 years of age may apply for admission. A fee of $125.00 covers all expenses for the week, and inquiries should be directed to Joseph Robinson, c/o the North Carolina School of the Arts, PO Box 12189, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27107.
