Hungarian bassoonist looking for a temporary position

I have recently received interesting correspondence from Gabor Janota, who is an Associate Professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary and co-principal bassoon in the Hungarian State Symphony. Mr. Janota is presently on leave of absence until August 1986. He and his wife, Ilona Bartalus, who is a Kodaly specialist are currently employed at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Mr. Janota is also free lancing in the area. It would be possible for Mr. Janota and his wife to extend their leave of absence for a year or two after August 1986 to substitute in a University or College for anyone planning on being on sabbatical leave or leave of absence during that time. Mr. Janota was the 1958 winner of the Munich International Competition and has performed and recorded extensively both here and in Europe. His recordings include the Mozart Concerto (SLPZ 1219); two separate recordings of Vivaldi Concerti (LPX 11346 and SLPX 11643; on the Hungarian

"Qualiton" label, and the Hummel and J. C. Bach (B-flat) Concerti' (SLPX 12014); and the Istvan Lang Two Preludes for a Postlude (SLPX 12091) on the "Hungaroton" label.

In reviewing the Hummel record for the American Record Guide (Vol. 44, No. 2, Dec. 1980) Peter Hugh Reed described Janota as "...a brilliant virtuoso. His superb execution of the unbelieveable demands made in both the Hummel and the Bach Concerti reveals an artistry totally in command of each profusely ornamented rococo or classical passage."

Mr. Janota's wife, Ilona Bartalus, is currently teaching courses in Kodaly Pedagogy and Theory, Choral Technique, Ear Training, and Music Appreciation,

Persons interested in contacting Mr. Janota and his wife directly for further inquiry or information can reach him at: 230 Forsyth Drive, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada N2L 1A5 (telephone 519-576-9253). Ed.
