From the Bassoon Editor's Desk...

Ron Klimko

In an effort to better serve the readers of the publications of the I.D.R.S., oboe editor, Dan Stolper and I are doubling our efforts to bring the issues out on time - that is, the fall issue of The Double Reed in October (we made it this year!), the winter in December, the spring in March, and the Journal in July. It is not easy to do. It requires coordination between the printers, two editors, and 2nd Vice President Peter Klatt, who handles the advertising, and Executive Secretary-Treasurer Lowry Riggins, who needs to provide updated membership information as well as the current membership list. What we lacked before was for one person to try to coordinate everything and make the final decisions. Last summer, the Executive Committee decided to give me that "final say," so to speak, because of my closer proximity to the printers, Falls Printing Company of Idaho Falls, Idaho. So far, (knock on wood!), it's working. It worked for the fall and winter issues because, come what may, we established a final day for printing - October 16th for the fall issue and December 12th for the winter. The spring issue will go to print March 13th, 1986 and the journal on July 16th. What we may all have to live with is the reality that everything we wanted to appear in one issue might not be there and might have to wait until the next issue. But this is, I feel, a small price to pay for a publication schedule that will enable the issues to reach you, the readers, on a regular basis. This has been a prime goal of mine since I took over the bassoon editorship, and I am so very relieved to see it begin to take form. I urge your support, your participation, and your suggestions for improvement. I promise to answer all letters promptly. That, too, is a very important part of this job. Please let me hear from you so that the whole Society can share from our collective expertise. If you've got a great idea, I can guarantee its future publication. Let both Dan and me hear from you. No, not tomorrow - TODAY!
