William Waterhouse

The well-known Dutch bassoon scholar and collector Will Jansen died aged 75 on Sept. 5th 1981. A marine engineer by profession, he had already some twenty years ago compiled a polyglot dictionary in six languages on marine technology. A keen interest in playlate Franz Groffy and acted as his representative in Holland. At his home in Nieuw Loosdrecht, near Hilversum, he and his wife Mary dispensed hospitality to visiting bassoonists, who will long remember him with gratitude and affection. He will however remain best known for his mammoth monograph The Bassoon, its History, Construction, Makers, Players and Music which his publishers started to issue in parts in mid 1978 and which after 13 installments still awaits completion.
