contrast these study outlines from two of the world's most renowned
teacher/performers of the bassoon.)
Bassoon study at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris,
1957-1984
Maurice Allard
One only plays the French bassoon in this class. There are places for twelve
French students and four foreign students. There are two entrance auditions. For
the first one plays two works of the performer's choice. For the second a single
work is required. For 1983 the work was the Concerto Ironico by
Pierre-Max Dubois, third and fourth movements.
Programs since 1957:
Each year: Diatonic and chromatic scales at all intervals.
Studies: Two books chosen from the Bitsch, Gatti, Flament, Giamperi, Ruggiero,
Bozza, Orefici, Pivonka, and Van de Moortel. Orchestra studies from Mozart,
Beethoven, Ravel, Debussy, Stravinsky, etc. And finally!, the works
chosen for the year, (the progression is interesting), the last work, in
bold, is written especially for the "concours"; to this work
a classic work has also been added since 1970. The program therefore, is not
very long... but the jury is very demanding!
