Topic: Pressing TOO Hard on the Oboe Reed

I can't seem to stop pressing my lips too hard on the oboe reed. I think about it and do pretty well but then I'll get into the music I'm playing and well... any ideas??
(I used to play clarinet in another life and pressing down was a good thing).

Re: Pressing TOO Hard on the Oboe Reed

I'm a bassoonist, but when I was in college I had some jaw issues stemming from bite habits. Practicing in front of a mirror was one of the many helpful things I did to transition out of those bad habits. It takes a long time and patience with yourself though.

(Alexander Technique was another very helpful tool in this time for me)

Trent, Thank you for responding! I'll try the mirror.

My guess would be that your air supply is not strong enough.
