Topic: New Commissioning Project. Bill Douglas Work for ob/fl/pno

From Richard Ramey: (bassoonhipster at gmail dot com )

I would like to let all of you know of a new commissioning project for 2015 with composer, bassoonist, and pianist Bill Douglas. I am spearheading the project to have Bill write a new trio for flute, oboe, and piano.

The work will have 3 movements, and be 11-12 minutes in duration.  The flavor of the work will be in his usual style of long, lyrical, singing lines influenced by Bach, lyrical jazz, African, Celtic, and Indian music, etc.

In the past few years, Bill has been commissioned to write several major works for woodwinds including the “Songs and Dances for Flute, Bassoon, and Piano”, “Suite Cantando for Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano”, “Suite Cantabile for Woodwind Quintet”, “Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano”, “Songs and Dances for Oboe and Strings”, “Celebration IV for Flute and Piano”, "Quartet for Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano",  “Woodwind Quartet”, “Trio #2 for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano”, “Quartet for Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano”, and “Sonata #2 for Oboe and Piano”. These have been performed many times around the world.

With this new project, commissioners will have a chance to be part of the creation of a major new chamber-music work and be recognized in the score for their contribution.

The fee to join this project is $60 per commissioner.  All participants would be listed on the title page as contributors with their affiliation; they also will receive the score and parts, as well as a recording of the piece on sampled instruments.

Once we get a number of people signed up, Bill would anticipate completing the trio by May, 2015. When the work is completed, I will notify all of the commissioners and at that point, they can send the commission fee directly to Bill.
