Flautist Louis Moyse, who turned 95 earlier this month, will conduct a concert of his arrangements for a dozen flutes, piccolos, bassoon, cello and piano in Salem at First Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon, May 27, at 3 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

Moyse is recognized as the world's largest contributor to flute literature, and as a renowned teacher, flautist, pianist and composer. Flautists are coming from as far away as Michigan to play with him, concert coordinators said.

He began his career in paris in the 1920s and had close associations with composers such as Poulenc, Faure, Dutilleux, Messaien and Saint Saens.

Around 1950 he and other members of the Moyse Trio moved to Vermont.

Moyse and his wife, Janet, will be in Salem for a week meeting with flautists from Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C.; North Carolina and surrounding areas in Virginia, and hearing accomplished young students from the Roanoke Valley who play the flute. The students were recommended by their teachers.
