Topic: Bassoon U-tube gasket question

Is there any reason that a bassoon U-tube gasket made with flexible rubber/neoprene should NOT be used?

I cannot think of any reason.

Re: Bassoon U-tube gasket question

There are reasons for both types of gasket. I find it easier to get a good seal from cork, but that is only personal preference. Both materials seem to degrade over time, we are talking a long time. My Heckel has a rubber gasket and it works quite well.

I had a rubber gasket on my Moosmann for a long time. No issues except that we determined it was just too thick and was causing intonation issues so we replaced it with cork, but only so that it would be thinner.
