A Celebration of the Life of Charles Robert Reinert took place at 1PM on Friday September 21, 2007 on the stage of Helen M. Hosmer Hall at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Professor Reinert had taught bassoon and voice at Potsdam and he was the IDRS’s newest bassoon Honorary Member having been named at the Ithaca meeting.

More than 100 persons attended including Mrs. Margaret Reinert, many of her family, Potsdam emeriti faculty and former students. Christopher Weait organized the program and created a photo album demonstrating Reinert’s life and accomplishments. The SUNY Potsdam President John Schwaller and the Dean of the Crane School of Music Alan Solomon welcomed the audience.

Recordings of Professor Reinert’s singing and playing were heard and some of his favorite music was performed and a reception was held afterwards. Participating in the Celebration were Luise Hoffman, Alan Goodman, Christopher Weait, Robert Danziger, David A. Green, R. Steven Roberts and Fernando Traba – all former Reinert students. Reminiscences were presented by emeriti professors Harry I. Phillips and James Stoltie. Piano accompaniment was provided by emeritus professor Arthur Frackenpohl. The current bassoon professor at the Crane School, Carol Lowe, also performed. A video was made of the event and a DVD or a website version of it is planned.

Memorial contributions can be made to support the C. Robert Reinert Scholarship established in 1994 by his former students, colleagues and friends. The Reinert Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student majoring in either bassoon or voice.

All gifts should be made payable to the Potsdam College Foundation, Inc., 44 Pierrepont Avenue, Potsdam, New York 13676.
