Topic: Expanding My Double Reed List

If you read my blog today you'll all see that I'm attempting to get out of my USA-centric state. Really. I do understand that the US isn't the center of the universe, honest and true, and I've felt bad about neglecting other countries and other fine players on my list of double reed players.

So what does this mean? It means that I have just barely started a page called European Orchestra Double Reed Players. Now I know we have people here who can help me with this, so I thought I'd announce this new adventure of mine! I also know you all might have more additions to other lists (or additional lists to suggest).

See the sparce listings here and then, if you want to help in any way, feel free to send me urls and other information about European double reed players. I guarantee you it will be growing with just my work today, but I do love getting outside help!

I will still have South America, Asia and Africa to research, of course. (I did Australia back when the convention was held there, and I put up any Canadian groups I could find a while ago as well.)

After that ...?? Hmmm ... any orchestras in Antarctica?

This is going to take some time. But with your help it will go quicker, I'm sure.

And please do keep in mind that I list personal double reed pages, chamber music groups, and more ... just check out this page to see what I'm doing.

Re: Expanding My Double Reed List

Your site is really great, I have just written to you an e-mail with some Swiss Orchestras that you can add to the European Orchestras Site.. If I'm not too lazy, I will continue to list some of them ;-)

Got it, Anne. Thanks very much. smile

Getting help from all of you saves me a lot of time. Besides, I love hearing from other double reeders/readers!

Re: Expanding My Double Reed List

What a great idea, Patty! It would be a valuable addition to the Double Reed after you've finished compiling the information.  We ran a listing of U.S. orchestra double-reed sections a few years ago, and having the European orchestras listed would be a great addendum.  Send your findings to Dan Stolper or Ron Klimko!

Re: Expanding My Double Reed List

Sure, Nancy. I can do that.

Of course this is going to take a good amount of time, and I'm finding some sites a challenge to navigate. I sure wish I could speak -- or at least read -- a number of languages. My German from college has come in handy, and my (horrendous) Spanish from high school allows me to get by a wee bit, but as to the rest ... forget it! (And I certainly can't read Hebrew, but the two sites I found from Israel had English sites that I could use, and a musician from one of the orchestras started me going on those groups anyway, so he filled me in on some things.)

And yes, I'm including Eastern European and the Middle East as well ... I wasn't quite sure where to draw the line for "Europe" but someone from Israel said they were usually included in the European lists. If anyone has suggestions for placement of groups I'll take 'em. I've also changed "American" to "USA" since I'm going to be working on South America and Central America eventually.

Please know, everyone ... this is not going to be done in a week or even two. smile
