Topic: Seattle Symphony on KCTS Wednesday

I stumbled upon this while looking for something else.  I just wanted to alert our Seattle members to it.

Symphony on TV

"Seattle Symphony from Benaroya Hall," a two-hour program taped live last April, will air at 9 p.m. Wednesday on Channel 9 (KCTS), with a repeat at 3 a.m. Friday (it also airs on the KCTS HD digital channel at 9 p.m. Wednesday). Produced by the award-winning Northwest producer/director John Forsen, the show features music director Gerard Schwarz on the podium for Sibelius' "Lemminkäinen's Return," the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 (with soloist Julian Rachlin) and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8. Schwarz and Rachlin are featured in commentary introducing all three works.

The filming process sparked some controversy last April, especially among those who found the onstage cameramen and the enormous boom camera distracting. The payoff in terms of immediacy, however, is tremendous: This is a terrific show that makes you see the orchestra up close in a new way. The smooth and imaginative editing enhances the music. Don't miss this one.
