IBO's "Bach Project" returns for sixth installment

The Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra will present it's annual "Bach Project" Monday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center's Ruth Lilly Performance Hall.
John Abberger, principal oboist of Toronto’s Baroque orchestra, Tafelmusik, continues the IBO’s “Bach Project” annual series with this sixth installment. The centerpiece of the evening is an arrangement by Johann Sebastian Bach of the Stabat Mater by the early Classical Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736), the 300th anniversary of whom the musical world is celebrating in 2010, even as it despairs of his untimely death at age 26. Bach has changed the text from the words of Mary at the foot of the cross to Psalm 51 and the language from Latin to German, and has even written entirely new movements; it is BWV 1083 in the Bach catalogue. Other works by Bach complete the program, with Abberger and the IBO’s Allison Edberg featured in the Concerto in C minor for Oboe and Violin, BWV 1060. Vocal soloists for the evening include the internationally acclaimed countertenor and UIndy faculty member Steven Rickards.
This is the IBO's 12th season as UIndy's ensemble-in-residence. Admission is $20 general, $15 seniors, $5 students, and free for all UIndy faculty, staff, and students. Tickets are available through the IBO, (317) 808-BACH.
