Topic: Shaping and Profiling

I've always shaped my reeds before I profile. My teacher does the opposite. In the end, does it make a difference which way you do it?

Re: Shaping and Profiling

If you use a folding shaper you must profile first.  Many like to shape first to save the blade on the profiler since it is taking less off.  Also it might be more difficult to shape a piece on a straight shaper if it has already been profiled because the cane may not be flush with the shaper at all points.
