Topic: cold/dry weather- cause for tubes to crack?

Hi all!

I've been having more luck than usual with my tubes NOT cracking, but the weather has dropped in Chicago this past week and I'm noticing cracks again. I put the first wire on, wrap in twine, soak in hot water, and then use a forming mandrel. It seems as though there aren't deep cracks at first, but then next day when I go to wrap I get deep cracks.

Any advice?

New batch of cane compared to when you weren't getting cracks?

How long do you soak? If the cane sinks it's saturated and the moisture in the air shouldn't matter so much. Unless they're drying faster and the rapid drying is causing the cracks to be more pronounced.
