Topic: Heated mandrel

Hello everyone!
What are the benefits of a heated mandrel? Tube stabilization? Do you only heat the mandrel once or can you again after the tube is mostly formed? I just recently tried it again and the tubes look quite good. Thanks for your comments in advance!

Re: Heated mandrel

Hi Steve.

I don't use one myself but I thought it was for those who want to soften the cane to avoid cracking while forming.  Some people steam the cane when they form it on a mandrel and that would also soften the cane to avoid cracking.

Thanks Kent! I checked the archived messages too and got what I needed. I am working on a new mandrel with Rieger and this is probably good to use. More about that later when it's ready.
Best wishes!!!  Steve
