Topic: nose bleeds while playing

I currently have a student who was getting ready to play her 2nd performance of the day of a musical at her school when she experienced a nose bleed, and according to her, was probably one of the worst she has experienced.  She stated that she is prone to nosebleeds, but mostly only when the air is dry (as it has been this winter in Ohio).  Has anyone ever had this problem or has had a student with this problem?  Is there something that I can recommend to her to help keep her nose 'healthy'?  She ended up having to excuse herself for the first 1/2 hour of the musical.

Vaseline in the nostrils is the most common remedy.
