Topic: Winner of the 2016 Dark in the Song Bassoon Quartet Composition Prize
We are excited to announce that the winner of the 2016 Dark in the Song Composition Prize is Baltimore-based composer Elliott Grabill, for his new work for 3 bassoons and contra, Escape. Congratulations, Elliott! Escape will be premiered on July 6, 2016 at the Eastman School of Music at the NewBassoon Workshop.
This was an incredibly competitive competition, with numerous excellent works submitted by 30 composers from all around the world. We truly agonized over the decision — so many good pieces!! This competition has yielded many pieces that, we are confident, make lasting contributions to the bassoon quartet repertoire.
Thank you for all those who submitted works. We are well aware of the tremendous amount of work this entails, and are immensely grateful that you chose to enter our competition.
