Re: selmer bassoon

Henri Selmer(Paris) did indeed make a French system bassoon up until about 6 or 7 years ago. Their instrument was actually a very well made instrument and was a major rival to Buffet Crampon's instrument.

Selmer was one of the first to adapt an actual U-tube to the French bassoon design which greatly improved the response and resonance of the low register of the French bassoon.

I believe he number 241 would be the serial number of the horn. There are various books and resources on the Internet that would have serial number charts that would be able to tell you the year the instrument would be made.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions. I would be happy to try and help however I can.

Cordially,
Chad
