Topic: Physiology of Dynamics

Can someone point me to a good article explaining just what happens when we shift dynamics?  I'm struggling to explain it effectively to a student.

Thanks!

Re: Physiology of Dynamics

Great question, Brenda. Physiological changes to create dynamic changes are related to the balance of embouchure aperture and breath support. For all double reeds the fundamental physiology is similar since both lips are involved.

My former student, Dr. Bret Pimentel, posted a nice overview for all woodwinds (he's a phenomenal doubler) on his website https://bretpimentel.com/woodwind-dynam … mbouchure/

I look forward to reading other comments.

-best to all,
