Topic: Pre-war bocals

How do you discern a pre-war bocal from a post-war bocal, or for that matter a "pre" pre-war bocal? If you have a bocal without a whisper key hole, can you have that added, and doest that create serious problems?
Thanks.

Re: Pre-war bocals

Before WW II, Heckel always printed the markings and name imprint of the Heckel firm along the side of the bocal at a convenient place along the curve. After the war they changed the markings to show the approx manufatcure time of bocals by engraving the markings and Heckel name imprint CURVED around the bocal. This is quite fool-proof as a determinate.
Also, if you add a nipple at the right point and put a bocal pad receiver with a hole drilled in an older bocal, this system can work totally without problems. I have observed many older bocals so serviced. Sincerely, Gerald Corey, Ottawa
