Renew IDRS Membership

Dear Double Reed Friends,

IDRS invites you to join the Society for a very exciting 2018.

A one-year Regular Membership is currently $60. (Student Memberships as well as increased-support options are also available—see below.)

As a member, you receive by mail our quarterly journal, The Double Reed, full access to the many resources available on the IDRS website, and discounted rates at our annual conference.

Further, your membership allows IDRS to support and promote the world’s double reed communities in the following ways:

  • Redesigning and development of www.idrs.org, IDRS’s extensive website that provides access to double reed news, past journals, and double reed resources such as free downloadable music and fingering suggestions
  • Producing and mailing four full-color print journals each year
  • Sponsoring the annual Gillet-Fox and Young Artist Competitions and awarding prize money to the next generations of international soloists
  • Hosting a major international double reed conference annually
  • Commissioning major works in celebration of IDRS’s upcoming 50th anniversary
  • Awarding project grants to IDRS members
  • Working with double reed communities around the world (such as AFOES—our conference host in Spain) to share news and information

Please also consider becoming a Contributing Member. Your additional support helps to ensure the financial health of the Society and increases the ability of the society to further its shared goals of outreach, education, and communication. Contributing Memberships are available at the following levels:

$150 – Business Donor
$175 – Individual Donor                                
$350 – Patron
$500+ – Benefactor

Business Donor level members and above qualify for discounts on advertising in The Double Reed and are eligible to exhibit at our annual conferences.

IDRS also offers discounted Student Membership options. A Basic Student Membership costs $35 and gives full access to the IDRS website, including an electronic version of The Double Reed. Students who wish to receive the printed version of The Double Reed plus full website access can do so for $50.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) School of Performing Arts seeks candidates for a nine-month position as a tenure earning assistant professor. Duties will include recruitment, retention, development, and instruction of the bassoon studio; teaching bassoon techniques to Music Education students; teaching undergraduate level courses in Music Theory and/or Ear Training. The selected candidate will be expected to work well and build relationships with school music educators and private studio teachers, as well as relate to and work well with UCF’s diverse student population. UCF is a major metropolitan research university, enrolling over 66,000 students, located in Orlando, FL, the center of a growing, diverse community of nearly two million people. The Department of Music, within the School of Performing Arts, offers B.A., B.M., B.S., B.M.E., and M.A. degrees. Position Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in music from an accredited institution. Significant experience as an artist/performer in bassoon performance that demonstrates a clear capacity for academic advancement commensurate with a tenure earning position. Demonstrated success in teaching, recruitment, and retention of bassoon students at the collegiate/university level. Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate Music Theory courses.

Preferences

Terminal degree in music from an accredited institution. Interest in Chamber Music collaboration with other faculty. Interest in innovative applications in pedagogy and performance.
